In shortUnderstand Core Web Vitals - LCP, INP and CLS - and learn practical fixes to make your website load fast on mobile, improve user experience and support SEO.
Most of your visitors in India arrive on a mobile phone, often on a busy network. If your site takes too long to show content or reacts slowly to taps, they press back and choose a competitor. Google measures this experience with Core Web Vitals.
The three Core Web Vitals
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) – how quickly the main content appears. Good: 2.5 seconds or less.
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint) – how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks. It replaced FID in March 2024. Good: 200 milliseconds or less.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) – how much the layout jumps while loading. Good: 0.1 or less.
Google uses page experience signals, including Core Web Vitals, as part of its ranking systems – but great content still matters more. Think of speed as a tie-breaker and, more importantly, a conversion booster.
How to check your scores
- PageSpeed Insights – shows real-user data (when available) and lab tests for any URL.
- Search Console > Core Web Vitals report – groups your pages as good, needs improvement or poor.
- Chrome DevTools > Lighthouse – for testing fixes before publishing.
Quick wins for faster mobile pages
Improve LCP
- Compress images and use modern formats like WebP or AVIF.
- Do not lazy-load the main hero image; preload it instead.
- Use good hosting, a CDN and server compression (gzip or Brotli).
- Remove heavy sliders and unused CSS/JavaScript.
Improve INP
- Reduce third-party scripts – chat widgets, trackers and pop-ups add delay.
- Avoid large JavaScript frameworks for simple brochure sites.
- Break long tasks and defer non-essential scripts.
Improve CLS
- Always set width and height on images and video.
- Reserve space for ads, banners and embeds.
- Use font-display: swap and avoid late-loading banners that push content down.
